Three people have been arrested by the National Police in Lanzarote, accused of exploiting workers under inhumane conditions at a snack production company operating in the municipalities of Teguise and Tías.

The suspects, aged 39, 44, and 66 years old, were acting as administrators of the company and now face charges relating to violations of workers' rights and crimes against moral integrity.

The investigation was launched after a joint operation between the National Police and the Labour and Social Security Inspectorate (ITSS) of Las Palmas on 10th June. During an initial inspection, authorities discovered a worker living in what they described as a "filthy room lacking basic hygiene standards."

A follow-up inspection at a second facility linked to the same company revealed further evidence of exploitation. Officers confirmed that employees were being subjected to excessively long working hours, denied basic labour rights, and were working without employment contracts or access to holidays.

As a result of the investigation, all three suspects were taken into custody and subsequently handed over to the judicial authorities.

The workers who were rescued from the operation are now under the care of social services and are expected to be transferred to a shelter operated by EMERLAN (Emergency and Rescue Service of Lanzarote).

Authorities have condemned the company’s practices, emphasising the need for stricter oversight and urging anyone aware of similar abuses to report them immediately.
