AENA begins soundproofing homes near Lanzarote airport
AENA has begun the soundproofing of 48 residential properties located near César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport as part of its ongoing Acoustic Insulation Plan. The latest coordination meeting, held on Monday, confirmed steady progress in the programme, which now includes nearly 400 homes.
Hundreds more properties have also been identified as needing noise-reduction measures.
According to Aena, soundproofing projects have been drafted for a total of 393 homes, based on previous assessments that confirmed the need for acoustic insulation due to aircraft noise. Of these, 48 homes are now entering the active phase of improvement works.
A further 98 properties are currently awaiting approval from their owners. Once consent is given, insulation work will proceed. An additional 247 homes remain under evaluation, with some requiring further documentation before action can be approved.
During the third coordination meeting, the group overseeing the plan, which includes representatives from Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition, the Canary Islands Government, the Lanzarote Cabildo, Aena, and the local councils of Arrecife, San Bartolomé, and Tías, also reviewed the latest data. They reported receiving 74 new applications from property owners who meet the criteria for inclusion.
Acoustic measurements have been carried out at a large number of homes, leading to the identification of 595 additional properties that require insulation measures. This brings the total number of potentially eligible buildings to 1,059. However, 378 of these properties have yet to submit a formal application.
