Local police in Arrecife have arrested a 19-year-old man following a hit-and-run incident that left a motorcyclist seriously injured in Lanzarote. The suspect, identified as J.Z.L.N., is accused of crashing into the motorbike while driving a stolen rental vehicle, then fleeing the scene without offering assistance.

The incident took place on the Rambla Medular in Arrecife, where a car struck the motorcyclist before fleeing at speed. A police investigation later confirmed that the vehicle involved had been reported stolen by a car rental company.

Following the accident, officers launched a search to locate both the vehicle and its driver. The car was intercepted the next day by several police patrols, and two people inside were detained.

During the arrest, the driver attempted to pass himself off as the brother of the teenage passenger, who turned out to be a 16-year-old with an outstanding detention order. The teenager had reportedly escaped from the CIEMI Valle Tabares secure juvenile centre in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. He has since been handed over to the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office.

The investigation carried out confirmed that the adult suspect was the person behind the wheel during the crash. He now faces charges for three separate road safety offences: reckless driving, driving without ever having obtained a licence, and leaving the scene of an accident. He is also charged with stealing the vehicle.

The injured motorcyclist is still recovering from multiple fractures to his ribs and collarbone.
