OFFICIAL: No more masks on public transport from 8th February

The Minister of Health for Spain, Carolina Darias, has announced this morning that on February 7th the Council of Ministers will approve the withdrawal of the mandatory use of masks on public transport, including ferries, and internal flights in Spain and the Canarian Islands, but it will remain in all hospitals, medical centres, and chemists.

This means that it will come into effect from the next day, Wednesday, February 8th, after it has been published in the Boletin Oficial (BOE), and that tourists won’t need one for their coach or taxi transfer from the airport, after not having to wear one on the plane, pupils won’t have to wear them on the school bus, no need on coach excursions, and commuters won’t need them on buses or trams… unless they want to.

In statements to the media, she clarified that this decision has been made because Spain has "a very stable epidemiological situation in all indicators for Covid”, and that has meant that the experts, that make up the Alert Report, have decided that this is the right time to finally stop their use on transport.

However, its use will continue to be mandatory, also on the recommendation of experts, in medical centres, hospitals, health establishments (such as pharmacies and dentists), and for visitors and workers of social health centres.
