The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) are forecasting a hot Monday across the Canary Islands, but with very different outlooks. The western islands (Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro) will be slightly cloudy with temperatures reaching 28°C, Gran Canaria will be cloudier but slightly hotter, and Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will still have some haze, although not as intense as Sunday.
There will be intervals of strong wind in the eastern islands later this afternoon, and will only be breezy on the southwest coasts of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, but stronger elsewhere.
Saturday was the first day of the year when temperatures have exceeded 30°C, but yesterday (Sunday) was even hotter. The highest temperature recorded was 34.6°C at 4:10pm in La Aldea de San Nicolas in Gran Canaria. Temperatures of 33°C were recorded at 2:40pm in Agüimes (Gran Canaria) and Antigua (Fuerteventura), and in other parts of Lanzarote, La Gomera, and Tenerife, temperatures exceeding 30°C were also recorded.
