Irish tourist is arrested for abandoning her daughter in a hotel to get drunk daily

The National Police have arrested a 45-year-old Irish female tourist accused of the crime of child abandonment after she repeatedly left her young daughter alone in a hotel in Manacor (Mallorca) where they were on holiday together so that she could get drunk all day every day.

As reported in an official police press release, the situation began on the first day the mother arrived at the hotel with her daughter, who is just five years old, and began drinking alcohol in large quantities.

Apparently, the woman started drinking beer from the moment she got up in the morning until she went to bed, leaving her daughter to be cared for by other holidaymakers that she had met at the hotel, who also had a daughter of a similar age and felt sorry for the little girl.

This family said they had no choice but to feed the young girl, put sun cream on her, buy her some arm bands and watch her in the pool, then shower and dress her, as her mother was either asleep on a sunbed or drinking at the bar.

Eventually it got to the point that the hotel staff stopped serving her alcohol, so the woman went to a supermarket opposite the hotel and bought alcohol so she could carry on drinking.

Because she carried on and nothing changed, the family who were looking after her daughter decided enough was enough and chose to notify those responsible for the hotel, who in turn called the Police.

Once officers arrived at the scene, they went up to the woman’s room to speak to her. At first, she didn’t open the door, but eventually, when she did, she was in a drunken haze could barely stand up, and stank of alcohol.

Even though at first she denied all the accusations, the woman was arrested for the crime of abandonment of her daughter, who was transferred to a first reception centre, until her father got a flight from Ireland the next day, to take care of her.
