Human remains discovered in remote cave in the Canary Islands
Human skeletal remains have been recovered from a cave in Tijarafe, after being found in a hard-to-reach area on the steep slopes of Barranco Jurado in La Palma.
According to Bomberos La Palma, firefighters from the Laguna station assisted the Guardia Civil in retrieving the remains, which were located deep inside a cave situated in difficult terrain.
The discovery was made by practitioners of salto del pastor, the traditional Canary Islands shepherd-leaping technique, who alerted authorities after spotting the bones.
No further details have yet been released regarding the identity of the deceased or how long the remains may have been there. The Guardia Civil has opened an investigation and more information Will be available in due course.
