FAKE NEWS: Schools are not closed because of Storm Oscar

The Ministry of Education of the Canary Islands Government has had to issue an official statement after a false document was shared by people on WhatsApp yesterday afternoon and last night, stating that, due to the effects of Storm Oscar, classes had been suspended and schools closed.

They took to Twitter to reiterate the importance of carefully following the official communication channels of the Government, "through which it will be communicated if any school activities are cancelled."

Despite being a crude piece of writing, an alleged statement from the Ministry was passed from mobile to mobile, announcing that schools had been closed throughout the Canary Islands.
