Flights at Tenerife North Airport were temporarily disrupted yesterday (Wednesday) due to the presence of a dog on the main runway, as reported by air traffic controllers on X.
The incident forced several planes to remain in holding patterns, not able to take-off or land, until the issue was resolved.
At 3:43pm, air traffic controllers posted an update saying: "Planes circling east of Tenerife North airport due to a dog spotted on the runway, temporarily halting operations." This message was accompanied by an image showing a plane circling the airport as it awaited clearance to land.
Later, the airport authority, Aena, confirmed the presence of the dog stating that no operational incidents were reported despite the brief halt in flights.
This unusual event added a new kind of disruption to the north airport, which is more accustomed to disruptions due to fog… not dog!
