The Canary Islands Government has announced the end of the official wildfire risk alert across the archipelago. However, the islands will remain under a prealert status, meaning authorities continue to monitor conditions closely.

The decision, confirmed today, Monday, by the Regional Directorate of Emergencies, was taken following updated meteorological data and in line with the provisions of Decree 60/2014 and the Canary Islands’ Special Civil Protection and Emergency Response Plan for Forest Fires (INFOCA).

Areas previously under alert

The alert, now lifted, had applied to:

  • Tenerife, Gran Canaria, El Hierro, and La Gomera – at altitudes above 600 metres on the northern slopes, and from 400 metres upwards on the rest of the island slopes.
  • La Palma – above 600 metres on the eastern side, and above 400 metres on the western side.

Continued caution advised

Although the alert has ended, the prealert declaration issued on 1st June 2025 remains in force. This means the public is still urged to act responsibly in rural and forested areas, avoiding any activity that could spark a fire.

Authorities stress that vigilance is essential during the summer and early autumn months, when high temperatures, low humidity, and winds can quickly escalate risks.

Advice for Tourists and Residents

If you are visiting or living in the Canary Islands during the prealert phase, remember:

  • No barbecues, campfires or fireworks in forested or rural areas.
  • Do not discard cigarette ends or glass bottles, as they can easily ignite dry vegetation.
  • Respect trail closures and official warnings in natural parks and protected areas.
  • Call 112 immediately if you see smoke or signs of fire.

Fines for negligence can be severe, and in cases of reckless behaviour leading to a fire, criminal charges may also apply.
