Man critically injured after head-on crash on TF-1 motorway in Tenerife

Two men have been seriously injured in a head-on collision on Tenerife’s TF-1 motorway which left one vehicle overturned and another on fire in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Emergency services were called to the TF-1 between Chimiche and Tajao, in the municipality of Arico, following a serious collision involving two vehicles at around 3:00am on Sunday morning.
According to the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES), the two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision, with the force of the impact causing one of them to overturn. One of the vehicles also caught fire following the crash, requiring firefighters from Bomberos de Tenerife to extinguish the flames.
Firefighters cut casualty from vehicle
Firefighters had to cut one of the injured men free from the wreckage before he could receive further medical treatment from paramedics.
One of the casualties had suffered severe multiple injuries and was reported to be in a critical condition. He was stabilised before being transferred by ambulance to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Tenerife.
The second man suffered a head injury and was also taken to the same hospital in a private ambulance which happened to be at the scene. Its medical crew initially alerted the emergency coordination centre to the accident.
Guardia Civil investigating the crash
The Guardia Civil have taken responsibility for the official accident report and investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
No further information has currently been released regarding the identities of the two injured men or the circumstances that led to the vehicles colliding.
