Crazy weather is on the way with rain, snow, winds and a thick haze

The stable weather that the Canary Islands have been enjoying recently is about to change. On Christmas Day (Sunday), the archipelago will experience a front coming from the west that will bring rain, a drop in temperatures, and snow on the peaks of Tenerife and La Palma, and from the east, a calima and winds that will drag haze over the islands.

Both phenomena, according to the forecasts of various meteorological bodies, will converge in the Islands on Monday 26th (Boxing Day) and Tuesday 27th, leaving a mix of rain, snow, and dust in suspension.

While the ‘Dana’ coming from the northwest will cause a drop in temperatures in the Islands, the invasion of the African air mass will make them rise again causing a meteorological roller coaster, and it will seem like winter and summer coinciding almost simultaneously in various parts of the archipelago with some “crazy” and “unpredictable” weather.

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has already issued a yellow warning for heavy rains for Sunday that affects, at the moment, four of the islands.

AEMET forecast for the next few days:
AEMET predicts that "rainfall will affect the western islands (Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro) more than the rest on Christmas Day, beginning a thermal decline with winds from the south. The rains may be accompanied by a storm and be locally intense.”

On Monday, the 26th, "the unstable weather will continue, with more probable and intense rain to the west of the archipelago, when a significant haze from the east is also likely in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, which will affect all the islands on Tuesday.

As for temperatures, they will drop in the western islands on Monday and rise on Tuesday. There will also be snow above 2,000 metres in Tenerife and La Palma, while a "powerful intrusion" of haze occurs from the east.

On Wednesday the 27th, it is likely, says AEMET, that the unstable weather will continue “with rain that will probably affect the entire archipelago”, but that is expected to be more intense on Wednesday and Thursday. No significant changes in temperatures are expected, with winds continuing from the east.

After those days of ‘jumbled’ weather, the east wind will prevail, although the rains may persist until the following weekend, according to the wider prediction of the weather for Western Europe.
