Briefcase left outside a hospital turns out to contain a €64,000 donation

A mystery briefcase that was left outside the front doors of the Sant Antoni Abat Hospital in Barcelona last Friday (April 21st) turned out not to be a suspicious or dangerous package, but to contain a donation to the hospital of 64,000 euros.

Staff at the hospital found the case first thing in the morning and took it inside, after it had been left unattended in a safe place, but nobody actually tried to check if anything was inside it.

Later on, in the afternoon, after no one had claimed it, the briefcase was opened by members of staff, and to their surprise, it contained a large amount of money amounting to 64,000 euros in cash.

According to those who discovered it, the banknotes were “damp and in poor condition”, and were accompanied by a note specifying that the contents of the case were a donation to the hospital.

An investigation has been launched by the Mossos d’Esquadra, who have taken custody of the briefcase after being alerted to its contents by the hospital, to determine the origin of the cash and the person behind it, but believe that it is a genuine donation, as reported by 20minutos.
