The Director-General of Coastal Management for the Canary Islands Government, Antonio Acosta, recently held a crucial meeting with Arona's Mayor, Fátima Lemes, to address various concerns related to the municipality's coastline, and specifically the damage to the promenade in Las Galletas in the south of Tenerife.
Acosta took a keen interest in the Las Galletas Promenade, where he personally observed the damage caused by the large waves in early September. "The positive aspect of these meetings is to see firsthand the issues facing the municipality. Arona, moreover, is a coastal area that can be developed while preserving and enhancing the environment.”
“For such matters, I prefer to visit in person and assess them so that when we sit down to find a solution, we can choose the best one for the municipality and the people who enjoy the coast," he said.
After inspecting the state of access to Las Galletas Beach with municipal officials, Antonio Acosta said he has a clear vision of his cabinet's priorities: "There is an urgent need for emergency work, as the promenade is damaged, and we must ensure the safety of residents and visitors.”
“That must be our top priority, but we also need to work with a long-term perspective, which could involve modifying and enhancing the promenade itself and ensuring that all concessions are in order. This applies not only to Las Galletas but to the entire coastline of Arona."
Mayor Fátima Lemes highly praised Acosta’s visit to the region, stating: "We are very pleased with the visit of the new Director-General of Coastal Affairs, and we have seen that he is genuinely interested in resolving the urgent issues we face, such as the Las Galletas Promenade.”
“We have also been able to brief him on the concessions and the status of the entire Arona coastline to achieve smoother administrative processing, faster solutions, and greater efficiency. For Arona, everything related to our coastline is crucial."
