Airport strikes see flights cancelled coming to Tenerife and Gran Canaria

Today’s ground staff strike at the main airports in Germany has resulted in the closure of the terminals in Dortmund, Hamburg, Munich, and Frankfurt, due to the impossibility of dealing with passengers. The four airports have cancelled all of their operations (arrivals and departures) after declaring a 'Rate 0', and the number of flights at the Bremen, Hannover, and Stuttgart airports has been reduced.

Although the airlines are trying to reschedule their flights to other airports in the country with fewer restrictions, flights are being affected. So far, some 300,000 passengers and almost 2,400 flights have been affected by the ground staff strike at the seven German airports where the strike has been called.

In the Canary Islands, eight flights have been cancelled to date, two scheduled for Gran Canaria and six to Tenerife South. In total, there are 111 flight operations (both take-offs and landings) scheduled today with Germany, out of a total of 1,192 scheduled at all the airports on the islands.

In principle, according to AENA sources, the island's airports are "quieter than usual" without the normal long queues of tourists usually seen on a Friday.
