A three-year-old boy died yesterday (Thursday) in Pontevedra in Galicia (north Spain), after being left for several hours inside a car by his mother on a sunny day with high temperatures and all the windows shut.
A member of the public raised the alarm by calling the emergency services at around 4:50pm requesting health care for the small child after spotting him inside the car which was parked on a dirt parking lot in Torneiros in Pontevedra.
The Local Police, Guardia Civil, and Medical Personnel were immediately dispatched to the location given by the caller, along with members of the Psychological Intervention Group.
After breaking into the car, paramedics could only confirm the death of the child, which the Guardia Civil indicates, looks like heat stroke, although this will be confirmed by an autopsy.
Police sources consulted by Europa Press, claim that the young boy’s mother got confused and forgot to drop her son off at nursery and went straight to work on ‘autopilot’ forgetting he was in the car and left him there by mistake.
When the boy’s father went to pick him up in the afternoon and he wasn’t there, alarm bells started ringing. The case is still being investigated.
