42,000 pensioners in the Canary Islands will receive a bonus of 250 euros

The Canary Islands Government has given the go-ahead to the Decree-Law approving the payment of 250 euros to 42,795 pensioners with Non-Contributory Pensions, the Resident Minimum Income Guarantee Subsidy, and those who benefit from the Social Assistance Fund and in the Canary Islands.

In total, the measure is costing the government 10.7 million euros, and the payment will be made by bank transfer to the account of beneficiaries. This is the third consecutive year that this payment has been approved, the first two to alleviate the social effects derived from Covid.

This payment is a bonus in addition to other income, and will not be included in the beneficiaries’ calculation of income at the end of the year. The decree states that it is to compensate for expenses incurred by pensioners during the year 2022 derived from COVID-19, which have been increased due to the war in Ukraine.
