A 2-year-old child dies after falling from apartment balcony in Gran Canaria
A 14-month-old baby, who was in critical condition last night after falling from a six-metre high balcony in Tirajana in Gran Canaria, has died this morning from the injuries sustained from her fall. The incident, which is being investigated by the National Police, occurred on a street in San Fernando de Maspalomas, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. Initially it was thought that the small child was two years old, but her age has been confirmed since the publication of this article.
Emergency Services received an urgent call at 6:50 pm yesterday informing that a small girl had fallen from an apartment balcony and had landed on the public footpath on Calle Partera Leonorita.
When paramedics arrived at the scene they could see that the child had serious injuries and immediately transferred her to the Maternal and Child University Hospital in a critical condition.
The Guardia Civil escorted the ambulance to the hospital to guarantee it got there as soon as possible, and the girl was rushed straight to intensive care for immediate assistance.
However, the hospital has informed in a press release that the small child died from multiple injuries, including a serious head injury, early this morning. The National Police are investigating the cause of the accident at the parent’s apartment on Calle Partera Leonorita which is where she fell from.
