A 62-year-old American woman was airlifted from a cruise ship off Tenerife during a medical evacuation in the early hours of this morning, Saturday 17th October.
The passenger was travelling aboard Scarlet Lady, which was sailing north-west of the island when Spain’s maritime rescue service, Salvamento Marítimo, carried out the operation.
The Helimer 204 helicopter evacuated the woman from the vessel and flew her to Tenerife North Airport.
Maritime Rescue reported the evacuation through its official social media account. It did not disclose the medical problem that prompted the operation or provide an update on the passenger’s condition.
Two cruise ship evacuations overnight
The Tenerife operation was one of two medical evacuations carried out by the service’s helicopter crews from cruise ships during the same night.
In a separate incident off mainland Spain, Helimer 202 evacuated a Filipino crew member from Mein Schiff 2, around 45 nautical miles south-east of Cabo de la Nao.
He was flown to Alicante Airport for hospital treatment.
No further details about the medical circumstances behind either evacuation have been released.
