The Guardia Civil, in a joint operation with the Tax Agency, have arrested a man of Spanish nationality as he arrived at Gran Canaria airport, on a flight from Brussels, with 10.5 kilos of heroin in luggage. His arrest comes after the Belgian customs authorities alerted the Guardia Civil of a possible shipment of a narcotic substance transported by a passenger coming from Brussels.

This prompted Customs Surveillance officials of the Tax Agency on the island, together with the Guardia Civil based at the Gran Canaria airport, to set up a specific security point for the flight on which the passenger was travelling, as reported in an official press release.

The detainee, a resident of Gran Canaria, and the seized drugs have been handed over to the Investigating Court No. 2 of Telde.
