The Government Delegation against Gender Violence has confirmed that the murder on Boxing Day of a 65-year-old woman in Gáldar in Gran Canaria, is a case of gender violence.
This was reported today (Saturday) by the agency dependent on the Ministry of Equality after the victim's partner, Manuel Ramón Campillo García who was 44 yesterday, confessed before the judge that he had killed Mariam Ibarlucea Echave, burned her body for several hours and then buried it.
It was a friend of the woman who alerted police on Tuesday, December 29th, that he had not been able to contact her since the 26th, adding that her partner had confessed that he had killed her, and that he planned to surrender to the authorities.
For this reason, the Guardia Civil carried out a search in the area where they both resided, and found bone remains on a farm in the municipality, which were taken for forensic analysis.
At the same time the authorities were looking for Garcia who turned himself in on Wednesday, December 30th, at the National Police Station in Arrecife in Lanzarote.
After being arrested, he appeared in court this morning, where he confessed the facts, for which the judicial authority decreed his immediate entry into provisional prison for murder.
