A 7-year-old boy was evacuated by helicopter from a hotel in Gran Canaria this afternoon, with an open head wound and in serious condition after being recovered from a cardiac arrest.

The Coordinating Center for Emergencies and Security (CECOES) received an alert at 11:07am this morning from the reception of a hotel located on Calle Gánigo in Playa del Inglés, saying that the lifeguard had rescued a young boy from the pool in cardiorespiratory arrest and with a head injury caused by the edge of the pool.

The lifeguard began CPR manoeuvres until the arrival of the SUC ambulances, whose paramedics continued with the basic and advanced resuscitation manoeuvres, managing to reverse the stoppage and save the boy's life.

Given the seriousness of his condition, the SUC activated the medical helicopter that was able to land in the car park in front of the hotel, and flew the injured child to the Maternal and Child University Hospital in Las Palmas, where he was admitted in serious condition, for further treatment.

The emergency services have praised the quick actions of the lifeguard saying that his primary care saved the boy's life.
