Dead body found floating in the sea close to a beach in Mogán

The Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) has reported that they received an emergency call at 6.12pm yesterday afternoon (Friday), informing them of the discovery of the body of a man floating in the sea, close to the shore by one of the beaches in the municipality of Mogán in the south of Gran Canaria.

They immediately dispatched an ambulance, officers from the Local Police and Guardia Civil, as well as the fire brigade to the beach to retrieve the man and see if they could revive him.

On their arrival, they found that the body was already on the beach as bathers had pulled him out of the water, and on inspection, SUC paramedics confirmed that the unidentified man had drowned and had been dead for some time, and could only confirm his death.

The Guardia Civil guarded the body of the deceased until the arrival of the coroner and judicial authority to instruct the corresponding proceedings, whilst the Local Police took statements from witnesses who had retrieved the body and spotted it in the first place.

An investigation has been opened to confirm the cause of death, pending autopsy results, any events leading up to the man’s death, and to officially identify the deceased.
