Bus driver arrested for running over a motorcyclist after an argument

A bus driver has been arrested by the Local Police in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria after being identified as the driver of a Guagua Municipal (Municipal Bus), who ran over a motorcyclist on Avenida de Escaleritas on Monday morning in the capital of Gran Canaria.

According to an official press release, the incident happened on Monday around 9:10 am, which was when the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) received an alert, in which it was reported that a motorcyclist needed urgent assistance after the collision of a bus and a motorcycle, so they immediately activated the necessary emergency resources.

Upon arriving at the scene, the ambulance crew found a 43-year-old man still lying half under the bus, and after assessing him realised he was suffering from a severe back injury.

After stabilising him, and getting the correct equipment to move him, they carefully transferred him to the ambulance to take him to the Insular University Hospital in Las Palmas, where it is believed he has undergone surgery due to the severity of his injuries.

Following the incident, several videos have gone viral on social media showing an argument between the bus driver and the motorcyclist long before the incident occurred. According to these sources, and videos, the bus driver ran over the motorcyclist on purpose after deviating from his path, following him on his motorbike, and causing a collision, seriously injuring him.

Due to the seriousness of the accusations, the police have detained the bus driver and are studying video footage taken on mobile phones and CCTV cameras in the area, and will pass all evidence to the judicial authorities for sentencing.
