10-year-old boy seriously ill after being rescued from drowning in the sea

A 10-year-old boy is in hospital in a serious condition after being rescued from the sea in front of Playa Amadores in Mogán in Gran Canaria yesterday (Friday), as reported by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) of the Canary Islands.

The incident occurred around 10.45am, which is when they received an emergency alert informing that a young boy had been pulled from the water by lifeguards on the beach but was showing signs of drowning, and they were giving him CPR on the beach.

Paramedics from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) immediately went to the place where they assessed and assisted the child and managed to revive him so he was breathing again, as a medicalized helicopter was called to transfer him to the Maternal and Child University Hospital in La Palmas.

Agents of the Guardia Civil and the Local Police also arrived at the scene of the incident, and set up a safe area for the helicopter to land to take the boy to hospital, who remains in serious condition, but is expected to survive his ordeal.
