The Tenerife Cabildo made an official announcement yesterday informing that the forest fire that broke out in the Tenerife municipality of Arico in May, was finally extinguished yesterday (Wednesday), five months after it started.
It broke out on May 20th this year and was considered under control four days later, however, it has continued smouldering and reigniting due to hotspots on its perimeter.
More than 300 troops from different bodies, including the forest brigades and the consortium of Tenerife fire-fighters, have worked tirelessly to continue controlling the fire and finally, as reported by the Cabildo yesterday afternoon, extinguish it.
During these five months, 3,029 hectares (30.29 square kilometres) of pine forest and scrubland have burned, in what has been the largest forest fire on the island in 2021.
