A tanker truck veered off a cliff and overturned near the beachside kiosk at Papagayo Beach in Lanzarote on Thursday morning, prompting a swift emergency response.
Papagayo Beach, situated within the protected Los Ajaches Natural Park, is renowned for its pristine beauty and tranquil atmosphere. Despite its relatively untouched surroundings, it remains one of Lanzarote’s most iconic and frequented coastal spots, drawing thousands of visitors each year.
Footage from the scene shows the truck lying on its side after plunging from the cliff edge. Remarkably, no injuries were reported.
Emergency teams, including the Guardia Civil, environmental technicians, and firefighters, were quickly dispatched to the area. Although the truck was transporting water, experts took samples to ensure there was no risk of environmental contamination to the protected natural park or the nearby sea.
Local authorities have confirmed that a specialised recovery company will remove the vehicle early on Friday morning. The area will remain secured until the operation is complete, ensuring that beachgoers can safely return once the site has been fully cleared.
Residents and tourists planning to visit Papagayo Beach over the coming days are advised to follow any instructions from local officials and to exercise caution near the affected area.
