A ruthless criminal gang behind a string of violent robberies on security vans transporting money across Tenerife have been arrested by the National Police.
Six suspects are now in custody after allegedly using brutal tactics to snatch large sums of money from terrified workers.
The investigation was launched after a frantic emergency call to 091 from a man who said he’d been ambushed on his way out of an industrial estate in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. He was attacked by two thugs on a motorbike who forced him to hand over €113,500 he was transporting in his van.
Investigators quickly uncovered a well-organised criminal network with each member playing a specific role. Their operation relied on meticulously planned ambushes to intercept security vans carrying large amounts of cash, before divvying up the loot among themselves.
In coordinated raids on two properties, police swooped to arrest all six suspects. Officers seized €55,975 in cash, a haul of luxury items, illegal drugs, and three vehicles believed to have been used in the robberies.
Two of the alleged gang members have already been remanded in custody as the investigation continues.
The dramatic bust highlights the growing crackdown by Spanish police on organised crime rings that have been terrorising businesses and workers across the Canary Islands.
