Wanted fugitive arrested in Fuerteventura Hotel

A man wanted by Belgian authorities has been arrested by the National Police in the south of Fuerteventura while staying at a hotel in the popular tourist area of Jandía.

The suspect is a French national and was the subject of a European Arrest Warrant issued by Belgium.

He is accused of belonging to a criminal organisation and committing robbery with violence and intimidation.

The arrest took place on 2nd July and was carried out by officers from the Judicial Police Unit of Puerto del Rosario.

Following a targeted investigation, officers managed to locate him at a hotel complex in the municipality of Pájara. After confirming his identity, he was arrested and transferred to police headquarters in Puerto del Rosario.

The case was then referred to Spain’s National Court, which has since ordered the man’s imprisonment while awaiting extradition to Belgium.
