Baby rescued after being locked inside a car in Lanzarote

Emergency services were called to Playa Honda yesterday evening (Monday) after a baby was accidentally locked inside a parked car on Calle Varenga.

The emergency services received an alert at approximately 7:30pm and dispatched firefighters to the location given who used specialised tools to safely open the vehicle without causing any damage.

Fortunately, the child believed to be just over a year old, was freed without injury.

This is not the first time the emergency services in the Canary Islands have responded to similar situations. In April, firefighters in Puerto del Carmen rescued a baby from a locked car on Calle Irlanda.

A month earlier, Guardia Civil officers in Agüimes, Gran Canaria, had to break a window to free a one-year-old girl accidentally left inside a vehicle.

And in June last year, police in Morro Jable, Fuerteventura, intervened after another baby was trapped in a parked car. In all cases, the children were unharmed.
