Water park accident leaves 7-year-old boy in serious condition in hospital

The Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) have reported that a 7-year-old boy is in serious condition after nearly drowning in a water park in Mogán in the south of Gran Canaria. They received an alert early yesterday afternoon (Friday) informing that a child needed urgent assistance after an accident on a water slide.

Emergency resources were immediately activated including a medicalized helicopter which all went directly to the water park to attend to the young boy.

When they arrived, medical personnel from the SUC ambulance together with a doctor and a nurse from the local health centre, assessed and assisted the boy, who had been initially treated by the parks doctor before they arrived, for a head injury and symptoms of drowning.

Once stabilized, he was taken by helicopter to the Maternal and Child University Hospital in Las Palmas for further treatment. According to the report he is still in serious condition after the accident.

The Local Police spent time in the park after the incident collecting witness statements to ascertain what had happened to cause the accident.
