Vaguito, the dog that sits in front of the sea waiting for his deceased owner

Sometimes you see a story that you just have to publish, whether it’s in the Canary Islands or not. This one is a sad story about a dog called 'Vaguito' who goes to the beach every day and sits in front of the sea waiting for his fisherman owner to return.

Vaguito lives on the coast of Punta Negra, a province of Peru, in the home of an elderly woman who has taken care of him since his owner was killed at sea.

The house is near to the coast, and every morning Vaguito goes to the beach and spends hours looking for his owner, who unbeknown to him, will in unfortunately never return.

The story has gone viral since word spread about the dog’s daily routine, and he receives affection from passers-by who have seen him online. At first beach users thought he was a stray, as Jolie Mejía who posted these photos said: "He didn't seem abandoned as he was clean, so when he came up to us I stroked him waiting for his owner to return, but nobody came.”

Finally, one day, while a man was walking on the beach, she asked him if he knew the dog and why he sat every day in front of the sea. The man told her what the dog's name was and told him the story of Vaguito, whom everyone knows and cares for.

“He told us that the dog had lived with a fisherman who passed away some time ago, and that, since then, he comes here every day and looks at the sea, waiting for him to come back" Jolie Mejía posted online.

This is why he sits on the shore and gazes at the horizon longing for the impossible return of his beloved owner.
