The Canary Islands will continue to experience the effects of calima today, Friday, with hazy skies, rising temperatures, and even the possibility of isolated showers in some southern areas, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).
Daytime highs are forecast to reach 32–34°C in central regions of the archipelago, particularly in the south and west-facing slopes of Gran Canaria, where localised peaks of 34°C are possible. Lighter conditions are expected along the coasts.
Alongside the heat, haze is set to increase throughout the day, reducing visibility in some areas. Winds will generally be light to moderate from the northeast, with coastal breezes along the southwest of the mountainous islands. In the highlands, winds will shift southerly, with stronger southwesterlies at higher altitudes.
For those heading out to sea, the forecast indicates northeast winds of force 4–5 along the southeast and west coasts of the islands, with occasional gusts reaching force 6. Elsewhere, winds will remain at force 3–4. Moderate seas are expected, with areas of rougher conditions until the evening, and a northeast swell of 1–2 metres.
