VIDEO: Three tourists arrested for beating up an undercover policeman

Three tourists have been arrested in Barcelona after a brutal attack on an undercover Guardia Urbana agent, who was in civilian clothes, after they mistook him for a thief.

The policeman in question was trying to prevent a robbery in the La Barceloneta when the three men pounced on him and kicked him several times in the back, chest and head, leaving him unconscious.

As can be seen in the video, the policeman tried to stop the aggression by warning them that he was an agent, but this clarification was not enough for them to stop their attack. “I am a police officer, asshole”, he is heard saying at one point in the video.

The incident took place in the Plaza del Mar, in the neighbourhood of La Barceloneta, and started after the agent, dressed in civilian clothes, saw that a watch was being stolen and while trying to intervene to prevent the theft, was attacked by the three tourists who thought he was a thief.

After leaving him lying unconscious on the floor, the three men were located by the police in a hotel nearby, and arrested for an attack against authority and causing actual bodily harm. The police officer has already been discharged from hospital, and has also been relieved from duty.
