A disturbing incident at Punta Blanca in Tenerife, has sparked widespread debate on social media after the Instagram account @surfenespanol shared footage of a violent dispute between a local surfer and a couple of holidaymakers visiting the island.

The post identifies the visitors as Venezuelan holidaymakers Alexandra Caraballo and Cristian Mederos, who were preparing to surf when a local began shouting from the water, demanding they leave the area.

Cristian reportedly tried to negotiate by offering to move to a different section of the break, but the exchange quickly escalated. The local surfer allegedly began punching him in the water without further discussion.

Conflict escalates into punches and stone-throwing

Video clips shared online show the confrontation spilling onto the shore, with physical aggression, chasing, and even stones being thrown. Other beachgoers watched on while the situation unfolded with no police presence at the time, according to the account.

The surfer involved has been identified in the post as @tintinalcala55, who is claimed to have later shared a message saying he reacted to earlier provocation, threats and even a dog bite. However, Surf en Español notes that the dog only reacted after stones were thrown. The local surfer’s Instagram account has since been deleted, removing his version of events from public view.

Surf community condemns violence

In its statement, Surf en Español emphasised that surfing has rules rooted in respect and communication, and that violence can never be justified as a means of “protecting” a surf spot.

They highlight the difference between positive localism, caring for and sharing the area, and intimidation or aggression, which they say crosses a line and does not reflect the true culture of surfing.

The post concludes with a reminder that “the sea has no owner”, and that respect cannot be imposed through fear. The organisation firmly rejects any form of violence in or out of the water, defending a surf culture built on cooperation and coexistence.
