Local police in Yaiza have caught two people, including a minor, vandalising a protected natural site in Lanzarote on the 4th July in Playa Blanca.

The pair were found spray-painting graffiti on the rocks at La Cueva de las Vacas, located between Risco Negro and Playa Mujeres.

The graffiti included a word, two initials, a heart, and a date, all of which were etched onto the surface of the rocks in a space that falls within the Los Ajaches Natural Monument, a specially protected area under Canarian law.

The site is part of a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA) and is known for its ecological importance.

A visitor to the site first spotted the graffiti and alerted authorities. The case is now under investigation.

According to police sources, it is being treated as an environmental offence under the Canary Islands' Natural Spaces Law, and the perpetrators could face large fines depending on the extent of the damage caused.
