The National Police have arrested two German fugitives in the south of Tenerife, who are wanted across Europe for committing “financial crimes and offences against state trust”, carrying potential sentences of up to 15 years in prison.
A request for their location and arrest was sent by the German authorities on January 23rd, and following a thorough analysis of the available intelligence, officers were able to confirm that both fugitives were working in a bar/restaurant in the south of the island.
That same day, specialised National Police agents were deployed to the location in question, where they identified and detained the two men, whose descriptions matched those of the wanted criminals.
Counterfeit Banknotes in Circulation
According to the European Arrest Warrant, the charges against the two suspects include the purchase and distribution of counterfeit €20 banknotes, commonly referred to as "Naples forgeries."
The investigation found that the individuals had acquired these fake notes in Naples with the intent of passing them off as genuine currency. Reports indicate that the suspects successfully put the counterfeit money into circulation on at least nine separate occasions.
Following their arrest, the fugitives have been placed at the disposal of judicial authorities for the extradition process requested by Germany.
Public Cooperation is Key
The public's assistance remains crucial in locating fugitives, as they may travel across different regions of the country. The police encourage citizens to stay informed about the most wanted individuals by visiting the official website, policía.es, under the "collaborate" and "wanted" sections.
