Police at Tenerife South Airport have arrested two people attempting to board flights to Ireland using false identity documents. The arrests took place this week at the departures terminal during routine border checks.

The first detainee, an Algerian man, was found to be living illegally in the Canary Islands. When asked to identify himself, he presented what appeared to be a French identity card. Officers quickly determined that the document was counterfeit, leading to his arrest on suspicion of document fraud.

The second case involved a man of Georgian nationality who also wanted to travel to Ireland. Taking advantage of the busy summer travel period, he presented an Irish identity card at the checkpoint. After verification, the police confirmed the document was false and arrested him for the same offence.

Both men were taken into custody, and the National Police initiated the appropriate legal proceedings. In addition to criminal charges for falsifying documents, an administrative expulsion order was opened in the case of the Algerian national, which will see him return to his own country.

All findings have been reported to the competent judicial authority, and investigations into the incidents are ongoing.

Police reminder

The National Police emphasise that Spain, including the Canary Islands, maintains strict border controls, particularly at airports with high volumes of international traffic such as Tenerife South. Travellers are reminded that attempting to use forged or falsified documentation can result in immediate arrest, prosecution, and deportation.
