Two people have been hospitalised following a motorcycle accident on the island of Tenerife. The crash occurred yesterday morning (Sunday) on the TF-51 road, near Los Llanos de Trevejo in the southern municipality of Vilaflor.
The Canary Islands' Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) received an alert through its 1-1-2 emergency line and immediately activated the necessary resources.
SUC medical personnel carried out an initial assessment at the site, where a 68-year-old man was found to have suffered moderate trauma and was transported to the Hospital del Sur by ambulance, and a 61-year-old woman, also injured in the crash, was taken to the same hospital under similar conditions. Both victims are reported to be in stable condition.
The Guardia Civil attended the scene and have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. No other vehicles are believed to have been involved.
The incident comes as Spain’s Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) prepares to implement a series of significant measures aimed at improving road safety for motorcyclists. Officials have urged riders to remain vigilant and adhere to new regulations, which are expected to come into force later this year.
Motorcycling remains popular across the Canary Islands, but local authorities have expressed concern over the number of accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles, particularly on rural and mountain roads.
The TF-51 is a well-known route connecting Vilaflor with other towns and popular tourist areas. Its winding curves and scenic views attract many riders, but police warn that conditions can quickly become hazardous, especially in changing weather.
