Three women arrested smuggling drugs into Las Palmas prison

The National Police have arrested three women aged 19, 23, and 25, after they were caught trying to smuggle drugs and weapons into the Las Palmas II Penitentiary Canter in Gran Canaria, during visiting hours at the prison.

The Canary Islands Police Headquarters explained in a press release, that the arrests took place when agents from the Telde Local Police Station learned that three women intended to introduce narcotic substances into the prison when they had appointments with inmates.

Thus, they opened an investigation and set up a team to identify and locate the women to prevent the substances and weapons from being taken in.

With the collaboration of prison officials, the young women were identified, and full body searches were carried out from which they seized 113 grams of heroin, 97 grams of hashish, 7 methamphetamine wrappers, a wrap of cocaine, two crack wrappers, a Nokia mobile phone, a knife, and a dagger, all of which were hidden in clothing, underwear, and various parts of their bodies.

For this reason, all three, who don’t have previous criminal records, were arrested as alleged perpetrators of a crime of drug trafficking and carrying illegal weapons and were placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority for sentencing.
