Smoke detected in cabin on flight to the Canary Islands triggers emergency landing

A flight heading to the Canary Islands experienced a scare on Tuesday after the crew reported the possible presence of smoke inside the aircraft. The incident happened on board a Vueling flight that had departed from Málaga en route to Gran Canaria.

According to air traffic controllers, who shared details via their official account on X, the crew alerted authorities mid-flight. In response, emergency procedures were immediately activated.

Controllers cleared the flight path so that the aircraft had a direct descent and gave it direct priority access to runway 03, diverting all other planes in the vicinity.

Although the flight was originally bound for Gran Canaria, it was diverted to Lanzarote as a precautionary measure. Emergency services, including fire crews, were on standby at the Cesar Manrique airport upon the plane’s arrival.

Fortunately, the situation was quickly brought under control and ultimately proved to be a false alarm. No injuries were reported, and all passengers disembarked safely.

Despite the incident ending without major consequences, it highlights the importance of strict aviation safety protocols and the rapid coordination between flight crews and air traffic authorities in managing potential in-flight emergencies.
