The Town Hall of Granadilla de Abona has announced the reopening of three beaches in the south of Tenerife after water quality tests confirmed that the conditions are once again safe for swimming.

Ensenada Pelada, La Batata, and La Jaquita – all located near the popular coastal town of El Médano – had been closed since 20th July due to issues with wastewater discharge systems, which led to a temporary ban on bathing for public health reasons.

The beach at La Jaquita was the first to reopen on Tuesday (22nd July), following the restoration of normal functioning of the local water treatment system. Subsequent water quality analyses showed improvements, and officials began follow-up testing to monitor the situation.

As of yesterday, Wednesday 23rd July, the remaining beaches – Ensenada Pelada and La Batata – were also given the green light after the treatment plant regained full operability and further tests confirmed that all sanitary and environmental standards had been met.

In a statement, the council confirmed that public access is now fully restored to all three beaches, with safety and hygiene conditions guaranteed.

Visitors and residents heading to the beaches of El Médano are now free to enjoy the sea once again, just in time for the peak of the summer season. Authorities continue to monitor the situation to ensure ongoing compliance with water safety standards.
