Three arrested for robbing cars in Tenerife's tourist hotspots

The National Police have arrested three people in Tenerife suspected of carrying out a series of car break-ins in popular tourist areas, such as at beaches, viewing points, and national parks across the island.

According to the investigation, the suspects used rental cars and pretended to be tourists to blend in with holidaymakers and avoid detection by their victims and the police.

The detainees took their time to watch people’s movements and got to know how long people spent at a certain area, giving them the opportunity to break into the cars they selected and steal valuables that the owners had usually left on display.

The arrests were made as part of a special operation launched by the National Police in response to an increase in vehicle break-ins in public areas. This operation aims to prevent thefts from vehicles parked near beaches and other high-traffic tourist locations.

Seasonal Crime Surge

The summer season has brought a noticeable increase in certain crimes, including vehicle break-ins at tourist hotspots, beaches, and viewpoints. In light of this trend, the National Police have issued several safety recommendations.

They advise motorists to always ensure that their vehicle doors and windows are securely closed, even during brief absences, and to never leave the keys in the ignition.

The police also urge people not to leave valuables like bags, phones, or other items visible on the dashboard or front seats. Additionally, keys to homes or garages should not be stored inside vehicles. It's recommended to park in well-lit areas and avoid isolated spots whenever possible.

Anyone who is witness to this type of incident is also reminded that they can report it to the National Police by calling the emergency telephone numbers 091 or 112.
