Thieves crash car into café to rob it but flee empty-handed

In the early hours of Monday morning, an audacious robbery attempt unfolded at the 'Arucas' café, located at the junction of Calle Tomás Morales and Paseo de Lugo in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

At around 3:25am, thieves crashed a white Volkswagen Golf into the café's entrance to break into it and burgle it. However, their plans were swiftly derailed when they unexpectedly encountered the café's owner, forcing them to leave as quickly as they had arrived.

The National Police reported that officers were dispatched to the café after receiving alerts about the incident. The owner, who was in his office on the lower floor of the establishment, heard a loud crash and discovered the car wedged in the bar's entrance. Startled by the owner's presence, the thieves abandoned their efforts and sped away.

Witnesses noted that prior to the crash, two men clad in dark clothing had been seen lingering outside the café. They were seen reversing the car into the café's glass entrance several times before making their hasty getaway.

Despite the Local Police conducting a thorough search in the area at around 3:35am, they didn’t locate the vehicle, according to statements given to Europa Press.

The police are continuing with their investigation, working diligently to identify and apprehend the suspects involved in this attempted robbery.
