The spectacular snowy peaks of La Palma

The peaks of La Palma looked spectacular yesterday morning (Saturday), with an undisturbed snow blanket, a completely clear sky, and sun overhead. Several images have been released from the observatory staff and webcams showing the surroundings of Roque de Los Muchachos, located on the top of the Island, more than 2,400 meters above sea level.

The cold continues to be intense with temperatures at the Astrophysics Observatory of -3.6°C at 9:00am yesterday morning (February 11th). These icy values, in particular, have been recorded in the surroundings of the Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT).

In the vicinity of the Gran Telescopio Canarias, -2.4 degrees was registered and at Pico de la Cruz -2.2 degrees, according to Apalmet.

The Roque de Los Muchachos highway (LP-4), between Pico de La Nieve (kilometre point 25) and the Roque de Los Muchachos Astrophysical Observatory Residence (kilometre point 36) was closed yesterday due to the presence of ice and snow on the road, but is expected to be open again today.
