The spokesman for the Canary Islands Government, Julio Pérez, has said that today has been a “good morning” in the saga of the Tenerife fire, although not “as good” as the ones they are expecting over the next few days, as progress has been made, and the key for the rest of the day is to "consolidate their position”.
He confirmed that the TF-21 road from La Orotava to Portillo has been reopened, and said others may be too after evaluation by technicians during today's session.
Marta Moreno, deputy director of Civil Protection in the Canary Islands, acknowledged that there is "little news" regarding the relocation of the 38 people who are still evacuated from their homes: "Perhaps there may be a change of level, which means that the Tenerife Cabildo will manage the emergency, not the regional government"
Pedro Martínez, from the Forest Brigades team, indicated that the Tigaiga hillside has “few active fires” although they do appear at another point, just above the evacuated area: “It is burning slowly, but, little by little, it progresses.”
Finally, Pedro Martín, president of the Cabildo, reiterated that they will wait until later to find out if the people who are still evacuated from their homes can return. In addition, it will be tonight when it will be decided if the fire can go to level 1 today.
