The Government makes a new 'flexible' Level 4 for Tenerife and Gran Canaria

Earlier today (Thursday), the President of the Canary Islands Government, Angel Victor Torres, said that there would be some changes in the restrictions at each alert level, and following a Governing Council meeting that lasted from 10.30am until 5pm, they have revealed the changes that are being made.

The Governing Council has agreed to continue with the moderate and progressive de-escalation of the restrictions in the face of the continued decline in the accumulated incidence of this sixth wave of the pandemic, with changes applying from tonight 00:00h on February 11th 2022, until midnight on March 10th 2022.

Today’s agreement basically means that each level ‘moves down one’ as far as capacity, group sizes, and closing times are concerned, without the need of any Covid certificates or any other requirements.

This means that the islands in Level 4 (Tenerife and Gran Canaria) now have the measures from Level 3, the islands in Level 3 (the rest of the archipelago) have the regulations from Level 2, and so on. This measure affects all activities and establishments subject to limitations due to the pandemic, such as hospitality venues, nightlife, gyms, sports facilities, etc.

Subsequently, this means that:
- Group sizes:
Levels 1 & 2 are 12 people; Level 3 is 8 people, Level 4 is 6 people (because Level 3 was six as well before), except cohabitants.

- Closing times: Levels 1 & 2: 4.am, Level 3: 3am, Level 4: 2am (as long as licence allows).

- Capacities for Hospitality (bars, restaurants, nightlife, etc):
Levels 1 & 2: 100% outdoors and 75% indoors, 12 to a table, close at 4am.
Level 3: 75% outdoors and 50% indoors, 8 to a table, close at 3am.
Level 4: 75% on terraces and 40% indoors, 6 to a table, close at 2am.

- Sports: given the continued decrease in cases, the maximum capacity limit of 85% will be applied for events in open-air venues, and 75% for events in indoor venues, respecting the non-pharmacological measures of protection against Covid, i.e. spacing and masks.

- Cultural venues (theatres, cinemas, auditoriums, etc): in indoor cultural and artistic premises whose normal activity is cultural, the maximum capacity allowed will be 75%.
Any activity that takes place in limited public spaces in the open air, such as squares, parks, or sports facilities, the maximum capacity allowed will be 85%.
