A 46-year-old woman was taken to hospital yesterday evening (Thursday) after falling from a jet ski off the south coast of Tenerife. The incident happened shortly after 7.15 pm in the Marina de San Miguel area of San Miguel de Abona.
A call was made alerting authorities that the woman had fallen while riding the jet ski. Emergency crews from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC) arrived at the marina where the woman was found to have suffered a moderate back injury. After being stabilised at the scene, she was transferred by ambulance to the Hospital Quirón Costa Adeje for further treatment.
In recent years, the Canary Islands have seen a number of serious jet ski incidents. In Gran Canaria, a 28-year-old woman tragically died in 2024 after losing control and crashing into a breakwater at Anfi del Mar, while just this month in Mogán, a 44-year-old man and an 11-year-old child were injured when two jet skis collided off Taurito Beach.
Lanzarote has also recorded close calls, including a runaway jet ski that had to be intercepted by rescue crews in June 2025 after its riders fell into the sea.
Authorities remind tourists and residents that while jet skis are popular, users should always wear protective equipment, follow the operator’s instructions carefully, and stay aware of sea conditions to reduce the risk of accidents.
