Today, like every Thursday, the Governing Council met to review the epidemiological situation of the island and address any possible changes in the alert level of the islands. This morning the President of the Canary Islands, Angel Víctor Torres, said: “It is foreseeable that there will be a drop in level for some islands.”
Torres continued saying: “We have already taken steps to eliminate some restrictions, and hospital pressure has decreased in all of the islands. I believe that with the decisions already made, and with those that will be made today and in the next few weeks, we are moving forwards and will practically eliminate all restrictions.”
Following the meeting the vice president of the Government, Antonio Olivera announced that the Canary Islands are now split into two groups due to the Incidence of the virus, the number of cases, and hospital pressure.
These two groups are Tenerife and Gran Canaria, because they have the worst data, and then the rest of the islands are in another. He continued by saying that there are changes to various restrictions looking at these two as groups as follows:
Tenerife and Gran Canaria: Closing time is now at 3:00am (where licences allow); the maximum number of people that meet in public or be sat together is 8, and the capacity, except for professional sporting and cultural events, will be 75% outdoors and 50% indoors.
He added that for everything else the two islands continue in Level 4,
Regarding the rest of the islands, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro all continue in Level 3, but Lanzarote drops to Level 2. Closing time in these islands is now 4:00am and groups of up to 12 people are permitted.
These changes all take effect from tomorrow.
