The Tenerife Cabildo has signed a cooperation agreement with the Instituto Canario de la Vivienda (ICAVI) to build 47 public housing units that will be available for long term rental in the San Isidro area of Granadilla de Abona in the south of Tenerife.

The new apartment block will be located between Calle Los Tableritos, Calle Los Setos, Calle Obispo Pérez Cáceres, and Calle Peatonal Padre Esteban.

This agreement forms part of a wider housing plan between the Cabildo and the Government of the Canary Islands to develop seven public housing projects in seven Tenerife municipalities, with a total investment of €45 million.

€9.6 million investment for the Granadilla project

The San Isidro development has a budget of €9,666,430, of which the Cabildo will contribute €4.1 million and ICAVI €5.5 million.

The initiative aims to expand affordable housing options in the municipality, where demand for rental properties has grown sharply in recent years.

Cabildo highlights “active role” in housing policy

Tenerife’s vice president, Lope Afonso, welcomed the agreement and highlighted the Cabildo’s “active role” in promoting public housing during the current term. He said the island now has “strategic tools” to support both the acquisition and construction of new homes, helping to address ongoing challenges in accessing affordable housing.
